Life Marchers - Floral Parade
On Labor Day, the "Life is a Peach" group proudly walked in the Floral Parade in Romeo Village. Everyone sported their colorful "Peach" t-shirt, produced by Tees "n" Things of Romeo; held life-affirming signs and passed out LifeSavers to the children; and walked behind Susan Viviano and Sonia Lopez who carried the "Life is a Peach" banner that American Ink Printing of Clinton Township graciously donated. In the middle of our group was Don Smith driving his 1947 De Soto with a big prolife sign mounted on the roof.
A great time was had by all and so we're already looking ahead with peachy anticipation to next year! Anyone who agrees that "Life is a Peach" is invited to march with us in the 2011 Floral Parade on Labor Day, Monday, September 5, 2011.
SAVE THE DATE of 9/5/11! Being in the parade is a great way to publicly proclaim our message of life and also have fun. We will proudly wear our "Life is a Peach" t-shirt (which you can purchase for $10 at the parade) and carry peaceful, peachy, life-affirming signs.
Floral Parade: Guidelines for an Enjoyable Time
Please carefully read these guidelines:
1. Meeting Time:
Meet in the parade staging area at Fiddler's Cove shopping center between 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Fiddler's Cove is located on the northeast corner of Van Dyke and 33 Mile Road. The parade moves south along Van Dyke through the village and ends at Van Dyke and Durham Street, near Croswell Elementary School. It will be much easier to find "Life is a Peach" and park if you arrive early. Look for our signs!
2. Parking:
Where you park is up to you. The southbound parade route along Van Dyke is over a mile long and "Life is a Peach" will be unable to transport marchers back to Fiddler's Cove. You are responsible for your own transportation. There will be parking at each end of the parade, porta jons and a festival shuttle back to Fiddlers Cove. CAUTION: Expect to wait to catch a shuttle. Be sure to allow enough time so you arrive at Fiddler's Cover no later than 12:15 p.m.
3. Attire:
We hope for summerlike weather but you never know what Labor Day will bring us. Dress accordingly. You will want some protection from the elements because we will be standing in the staging area near Fiddler's Cove for at least an hour before the parade even gets under way. Wear comfortable shoes. Do not wear any apparel that promotes a political candidate or expresses an inappropriate or graphic message. We hope you will purchase a "Life is a Peach" t-shirt [insert internal link] so we are all united in appearance.
4. Sustenance:
Bring snacks and a beverage. Between waiting in the staging area and marching, the parade will take up to three hours. This is a long parade with over 100 entries. We don't want anyone to become weak with hunger or dehydrated.
5. Signage:
Our "Life is a Peach" message is peaceful and life-affirming. We do not use graphic images of aborted babies or inflammatory, judgmental messages (e.g. "abortion is murder"), or political signs. We will not allow anyone with improper signs to march and we reserve the right to refuse any sign we do not approve.
6. Giveaways:
You will not be allowed to hand out anything to parade watchers except the LifeSaver candies that "Life is a Peach" provides. Throwing candy into the crowd or onto the street or sidewalk is prohibited, for safey reasons.7. Children:
Young people are welcome to march with us. In fact, we'll be disappointed if we don't have a bunch of kids, teens, and young adults. Strollers are permissable but for everyone's safety no bicycles, skateboards, in-line or roller skates are allowed.
8. Questions:
If you have questions, commednts, or concerns about being in the Floral Parade with "Life is a Peach", call Chris at 248-529-6125.
