Life Guards - Local Right to Life Affiliates
The right to life movement is most effective when concerned prolife citizens join forces to organize their own "grassroots" non-profit group affiliated with Right to Life of Michigan (RLM). Across Michigan, there are some 100 volunteer-run affiliates defending and promoting life in their communities while working with RLM on larger statewide prolife efforts.
In Macomb County, there are four active RLM affiliates. The ad hoc "Life is a Peach" committee is seeking to establish a new permanent affiliate to serve Romeo, Armada, Washington, and Ray. This would be our legacy long after the Peach Festival concludes on September 6. See the affiliate start-up meeting details at the bottom of this page.

The overall goal of RLM and local affiliates is to get people CLUED IN to the life issues. To end abortion and all assaults against the unalienable right to life, we need to motivate people to become prolife in principle AND in action. To BE prolife, we must ACT for life.
CLUED IN is an acronym for:
- C OLLABORATION - Affiliates work with RLM on state-level initiatives
- L EADERSHIP -- Affiliates initiate and organize local prolife activities
- U NITY -- Affiliates seek to bring together people from throughout the community
- E DUCATION - Affiliates inform the community about life issues, events, and news
- D IRECTION -- Affiliate boards plan local strategies to meet goals and objectives
- I NTENSITY - Affiliates motivate people to act for life
- N ECESSITY - Affiliates fight for life because we MUST
Why Do We Need a Right to Life Affiliate?
A "great disconnect" occurs too often between people's beliefs and actions. We say we believe in the unalienable right to life of all people, born and unborn. But do we give of our time as volunteers, our talents to the cause, and our treasure in support of the movement? Do we make the life issues our top priority in determining who gets our vote on election day? Do we keep our prolife views a secret for fear of offending someone?
The local RLM affiliate tries to help us overcome our "disconnect" and act on our prolife beliefs. In other words, affiliates try to get us CLUED IN by providing opportunities to make a difference for life through education, community witness, prayer, outreach to houses of worship, legislative lobbying, political action, and fund-raising initiatives. There is a way for all of us to pitch in no matter how much time we have to give, no matter what are our talents and skills, wherever our interests lie.
The "great disconnect" results when people want to make a difference for life but simply don't know how or where to begin. They need direction. Often, they've never been asked to volunteer or donate. Frequently, people hesitate to say or do anything because they feel uninformed about the issues. Many who once were ambivalent about abortion became prolife activists after someone challenged them to think through the issues.
RLM affiliates strive to save lives by getting members of their community CLUED IN. Until the "great disconnect" is overcome, abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research and other indiginities will remain a constant threat to humankind. The harvest is plentiful but the prolife laborers are few.
